Introduction
Advocacy and representation is the foundation for OAHHS activities on behalf of members. Our government relations team works closely with local and national government leaders, business and citizen groups, and other health care organizations to promote high quality health care that is adequately financed and universally accessible.
To fulfill our goals, OAHHS continuously monitors public policy issues on the federal, state and local levels that affect hospitals and health care providers. The association takes action by providing comments and testimony to governing bodies, writing letters, participating in agency meetings, and developing collaborative relationships with organizations interested in Oregon’s health care industry.
There also are a variety of ways in which OAHHS members can participate in grassroots advocacy programs, including:
- Invite legislators and candidates to your hospital so they see firsthand what is happening and how the services you provide help improve the quality of life for your community.
- Pay a visit to your elected officials in their local offices or at the Capitol. OAHHS will help provide materials for the visit.
- Make a personal connection with legislators so that when a health care issue comes before them, they know where to call for local information.
- Encourage volunteerism for candidates who have an interest in hospital issues.
- Join the Oregon Hospital Political Action Committee
Health care has been and will continue to be the focus of intense public policy debate and OAHHS will continue to be a strong voice for members and the communities we serve.
