NHSN Reporting of SSIs

With our committment to public reporting around hospital quality measures, OAHHS is hosting a member webcast series in conjunction with the office of Oregon Health Policy and Research (OHPR). This is an three-part educational series that will walk members through the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) data collection system and how it will be applied to Oregon infection reporting. Members will have access to national experts from both CDC and NHSN. The webcasts will cover specific topics from surgical site infection identification to data analysis and reporting in NHSN and finally putting it all together with an open forum sharing best practices..

PART 1: Surgical Site Infection Identification
CDC and NHSN staff will provide guidance on identifying surgical site infections (SSIs) according to NHSN definitions. The interactive webinar will include evaluation of case studies and a question and answer period. About the Presenter: Kathy Allen-Bridson is a Nurse Consultant with the CDC's NHSN where she is a subject matter expert for healthcare related infection surveillance. Her responsibilities include development of infection criteria and surveillance modules and user support for clinical issues. She has over 16 years of hospital experience both as a clinical nurse and infection control nurse as well as 4 years public health work as the Border Health Program Coordinator for the Michigan Department of Community Health. Kathy is a graduate of the University Of Michigan School Of Nursing, Board Certified in Infection Control and is expecting to complete her Master's in Public Health from the University of London in June, 2011.
