OAHHS Advances Health Care Reform in Oregon.

The health care system in Oregon needs reform. One of OAHHS’ strategic objective is to be a leader in the dialogue around health care reform. Senate Bill 329 established the Oregon Health Fund Board as a way to begin that dialogue and engage a diverse group of stakeholders in the reform process. OAHHS’ role with the Oregon Health Fund Board is aligned with our  health care reform principles, derived from the association’s strategic plan. We will continue to invest, on behalf of our membership, time and leadership to ensure that health reform efforts lead to better access to health care for individuals and a delivery system that provides the highest quality of health care in Oregon. Our hospitals are committed to providing high quality, complete access and a cost-effective approach to health care. We are not alone in this desire and it is because of our involvement with the Oregon Health Fund Board, as a resource for a solution, that we believe the health care landscape for all Oregonians can and will be improved.

Oregon Health Fund Board Background and Purpose

The Oregon Health Fund Board was created by Senate Bill 329 to develop a comprehensive plan to reform Oregon’s health care system including coverage for the uninsured, controlling costs, increasing accountability, improving quality, and focusing on preventive care and chronic disease management.  The Board will complete its plan in fall 2008.  It is expected that the recommendations will result in legislation, or multiple pieces of legislation. 

To create a comprehensive plan, the legislation and the board created six committees and two subcommittees.  These committees include; finance, delivery systems, eligibility and enrollment, benefits, health disparities, and federal laws.  The two sub committees are Quality Institute and Insurance Exchange.
