American Hospital Association Workforce Initiatives

The American Hospital Association (AHA) is working to represent your concerns and to bring you the resources to understand and address workforce issues. AHA's Commission on Workforce, made up of experts from within and outside health care, was formed to bring expertise and leadership to these efforts.

AHA's Health Care Workforce Site keeps you connected to the latest developments and resources to deal with the present health care workforce shortage.

Ideas in Action

AHA's healthcareworkforce.org web site provides current workforce information, a toolkit for addressing workforce needs and over 500 case examples outlining innovative efforts organizations across the country have undertaken to address workforce shortages. The case examples may be searched by organization or by location, and are separated into four key categories: foster meaningful work; broaden the base; improve the workplace partnership; and collaborate with others.

Advocacy and Representation

Never has AHA’s goal of making policy-making relevant to the real work of taking care of people and keeping them well been more critical than when dealing with the complexities of the current health care workforce supply crisis. AHA will continue to focus vigilantly on workforce issues on all fronts - government relations, policy, and communications. Critical to ongoing success is our close working relationship with state, regional, and metropolitan associations. AHA also plays a key role in building coalitions among other national and private organizations to amplify our message.

On AHA's Advocacy and Representation page, you can stay up-to-date with the latest public sector activities regarding the health care workforce and work environment.
